3 reasons why Psalm 23 remains the world's most powerful song.
It may not be on the world's top hit lists, but there are some very good reasons why the words "the LORD is my shepherd," continue to shape the way millions of people experience God each day.
Here's why:
It's divinely inspired. All of Scripture is inspired by God and that includes the Psalms. Because these masterful poems are inspired, they also provide inspiration. When we encounter descriptions of God as the Shepherd, we are challenged to believe that His care of his own is limitless. What an inspiring thought!
It provides comfort. Our world is rocked by pain and as such, many turn to fantasy or games to escape the grim realities of life in the 21st century. God offers us an alternative. He offers us the promise that He "leads us beside still waters" and that He is ready to "restore our soul." To the heart in need of comfort, those words provide power and a healing touch. They offer a level of satisfaction that precludes all entertainment. These sacred words invite all readers to share in on the heart of God.
It offers promise. All humans need something to believe in, some hope for a better future. Psalm 23 concludes with "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
Amen! Today may be terrible. Sickness, disasters and even death may confront us, but those inspired words of poetry promise the Lord's flock that a better tomorrow awaits. Be encouraged by His divine words of promise.
Follow the Shepherd's leading each day, knowing that He is leading His flock to pastures so green that they defy our wildest imaginings.
