The Challenge of Change
Last summer I was unexpectedly faced with one of the most difficult challenges of my life. My employer suddenly announced a new policy that all employees had to implement. Normally this would not be a problem for me as I'm a pretty progressive person as long as that change does not cause me to compromise on my faith.
Unfortunately, this was one of those times and the sudden change brought with it a tremendous challenge. The lines were clear: I could either choose to conform or face the consequences. With my heart pounding and palms sweating, I announced my resignation because I believed and still do believe that conscience should be one of our ultimate guides in decision-making.
Little did I suspect that this monumental choice would propel me down the road that I am now walking-the journey towards a career in writing. Thanks to that choice, I found myself unemployed, with a family of five and a new mortgage.
Help! :)
I smile now but at the time, believe me, I was doing a lot of praying! On the positive side, I found myself with some spare time on my hands, between job hunts and one day, the proverbial light bulb went off in my head: I finally had some time to write. It was then that the ideas for an epic christian fiction series began to flood my mind and I took the first step on what has already proven to be an indescribably amazing journey.
If it wasn't for that hard choice, then perhaps the success that I have and will continue to enjoy would never have materialized. The next time you're faced with a challenge that demands change, don't fear it. Recognize it as an opportunity to change yourself, and ultimately your world.
